Its members represent an enormous diversity of classical music backgrounds presenting chamber music in a renewed and energized manner, making it approachable and enjoyable to all kinds of audiences. Legendary clarinetist Stanley Drucker was a member of the New York Philharmonic for 60 years, 48 of them as principal clarinet. He has played some 10,200 concerts - including 191 solo appearances - under 10 music directors and countless guests. The Philharmonic estimates that over 40 million people have attended a concert in which he performed. To bring home just how much of the Philharmonic’s history Drucker has been privy to, consider that he was hired in 1948 by the legendary Bruno Walter, a protégé of Gustav Mahler and a link to the musical legacy of late 19th-century Europe. The Capitol Quartet Jazz ensemble is widely considered among the most exciting chamber ensembles performing today. Comprised of saxophonists who are teaching faculty at America's leading music schools and alumni of the Premiere U.S. Military bands, the Capitol Quartet has captured the imaginations of critics and audiences alike. The Capitol Quartet has been featured with symphonies throughout the United States and abroad, including the Cincinnati Pops, Indianapolis Symphony, Guatemala National Symphony, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa, Canada. They have made numerous appearances with the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphonies and many more collaborations. Now entering its ninth season, SONYC (String Orchestra of New York City) has established itself as one of the leading young ensembles in New York City. SONYC's group of dedicated chamber musicians and soloists are members of outstanding chamber groups as well as winners of international competitions. A herald of new music from around the world, SONYC has given 17 World and US premieres, and extensive traditional and educational outreach performances throughout NYC's public schools. SONYC is a pioneer in the concert hall.
